This study investigates using a glue-like substance, n-BCA, to block blood flow to spinal tumors before surgery. The goal is to reduce blood loss during surgery for metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC). Researchers reviewed records of 20 patients who underwent this procedure to assess its safety and effectiveness.
Preoperative embolization with n-BCA can significantly reduce intraoperative blood loss in patients undergoing surgery for MSCC.
The study suggests that n-BCA embolization is a relatively safe procedure with a low risk of severe adverse events.
n-BCA embolization is effective in reducing tumor vascularity, facilitating easier and safer surgical resection.
