This study aimed to identify factors that predict early neurological recovery in patients with complete motor traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI). The goal was to help doctors plan treatment, set realistic goals, and answer questions from patients and families. The researchers analyzed data from 1053 patients with TSCI from 59 hospitals in China. They looked at factors such as ASIA scores, presence of fractures, treatment type, and rehabilitation to see which were linked to neurological recovery at discharge. The study found that the ASIA score at admission, whether there was a fracture or dislocation, the treatment used (surgery vs. conservative), and whether the patient received inpatient rehabilitation all significantly impacted the likelihood of neurological recovery.
Tailor treatment and rehabilitation plans based on initial ASIA scores and the presence of fractures/dislocations.
Consider early surgical intervention to relieve spinal cord compression and promote neurological recovery.
Emphasize inpatient rehabilitation as a crucial component of TSCI treatment to enhance neurological outcomes.
