This study explored how people with spinal cord injuries feel about getting help with job training early in their recovery. Researchers wanted to know if starting vocational rehabilitation while still in the hospital is helpful. The study found that most people were happy to get this support early on. It gave them hope and helped them think about their future careers or studies. Some people felt it was too early to think about work while they were still in intensive care, but most agreed that it was a good time to start during rehabilitation.
Vocational rehabilitation should be offered during inpatient rehabilitation, but the timing should be sensitive to the individual's readiness.
Early engagement with VR can instill hope and encourage patients to consider returning to work or education early after injury.
Vocational consultants play a crucial role in providing advocacy, support, and guidance to patients, as well as facilitating communication with employers and educational institutions.
