Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious condition that leads to permanent disability and has significant economic and social consequences. It's often caused by trauma, but can also result from tumors, infections, or vascular issues. SCI can lead to various health problems like depression, sleep disturbances, spasticity, and issues with bladder and bowel function. Developing effective treatments requires a deeper understanding of how SCI affects the body. Current treatments focus on preventing further damage and supporting the patient, but science is working to find ways to protect cells and regenerate nerves, potentially leading to functional recovery and improved quality of life for those with SCI.
Implement more effective public health campaigns to prevent spinal fractures and reduce the incidence of traffic accidents.
Emphasize the importance of rapid rescue and transportation to specialized treatment centers to minimize secondary damage.
Develop comprehensive rehabilitation programs that address the patient's physical, psychological, and social needs.
