This study examines why some participants dropped out of the HandbikeBattle training program, a free-living training period for a handcycling race. It compares those who dropped out with those who completed the training to identify differences. The study found that a relatively low percentage of participants dropped out, mainly due to medical complications or motivational issues. Those who completed the training had more prior sports experience and higher fitness levels. The findings suggest that individuals with less sports experience and lower fitness may need more support during training to prevent them from dropping out. The study highlights the importance of addressing medical and motivational challenges to improve program adherence.
Provide additional support and guidance to participants with less prior sports experience and lower fitness levels to improve program adherence.
Implement strategies to prevent and manage medical complications during training, such as proactive monitoring and early intervention.
Develop interventions to address motivational problems, such as goal setting, peer support, and regular feedback.
