Simple Explanation

Stem cell therapy is an effective strategy for tissue regeneration, offering a positive therapeutic effect for repairing defective tissues. The positive effects of stem cell therapy are mediated by exosomes released by the paracrine action of mesenchymal stem cells. Exosome-based tissue regeneration treatment measures have been extensively studied as a promising treatment strategy.

Key Findings

  • 1

Research Summary

This review discusses the knowledge of exosomes and the research progress in the regeneration and repair of related connective tissues, including the regeneration of bones, cartilage, skin, spinal cord and tendons, and briefly discussed the corresponding mechanisms. The challenges and prospects of tissue regeneration and repair based on mesenchymal stem cell exosomes were discussed.

Practical Implications

Cartilage Regeneration

MSC-EXO shows significant effects on cartilage regeneration and good results in treating osteoarthritis.

Bone Regeneration

MSC-EXO promotes new blood vessel formation and bone tissue regeneration in various animal disease models.

Skin Regeneration

MSC-EXO plays a crucial role in all stages of skin regeneration, including homeostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling.

Study Limitations

  • 1
    Difficulty in obtaining high-purity and high-yield MSC-EXO.
  • 2
Unclear relationship between specific components in MSC-EXO and therapeutic effects.
  • 3
Non-specific targeting of MSC-EXO may lead to unforeseen side effects.
